Brian's Focus

Keep Us Legal!

Keep Us Legal!

The industry faces mounting pressures from expanding government regulation and potentially oppressive, overreaching, and unnecessary laws. Every company I have worked for has faced challenging obstacles and looming threats from CARB, EPA, and NHTSA, through which I have developed an expertise on this subject by way of direct experience. You have my commitment to push SEMA to increase efforts and shift to a more proactive and less reactive position focused on preserving the legality of vehicle aftermarket modification and the legality of racing.

Blaze the Trail

Blaze the Trail

Emerging trends and technology are impacting the industry from every angle, with movements like the increasing importance of the online world, electrification of vehicles, and the roll-up of member companies by private equity. Member companies must always be adapting to succeed. You have my commitment to drive SEMA to help educate member companies on how to prepare and adapt, explain what matters and what doesn’t, and clarify what needs to be done when. My extensive professional experience in these pressing areas of emerging importance will bring authentic and qualified expertise to the SEMA Board.

Feed the funnel

Feed the funnel

A wise man once told me, “The more you tell, the more you sell.” Marketing this great industry to the youth of tomorrow is mission critical to feeding our funnel with a never-ending pipeline of new customers. You have my commitment to push SEMA to market the hobby of the enthusiast automotive aftermarket and racing, so we continue to appeal to next generations. In today’s world, we are competing for interests against many alternative forces. My interest in cars, trucks, motorcycles, racing and anything with an engine started the day I was born, and my direct experience growing up a ‘car guy’ will bring authenticity, passion, and direct experience to the SEMA Board.

Open Door

Open Door

As an industry executive, I earned my way to CEO by serving those around me. I listen to all the voices and work to find the best way forward. The same is true here, if elected to the SEMA Board, my door is always open - SEMA members are welcome to contact me any time, I am happy to listen, learn, and band together to keep this industry prospering. All areas of my expertise are fair game for leveraging to help members and SEMA prosper.

Further areas of expertise:

Intellectual property strategy – I have been protecting IP since filing for my first patent in 1999. Today I have almost 20 patents issued in my name, and most of them with international filings. My companies have curated and defended hundreds of patents. I have similar experience with trademarks. I have personally managed IP strategy for small private companies, private equity companies, and a Fortune 100 company. My experience and expertise will bring value to SEMA to help further ensure SEMA provides members with tools and education needed to protect what is rightfully theirs.

Trade shows – I have been exhibiting and attending the SEMA and PRI for 20+ years. I have also spent several years attending international trade shows related to performance and racing, and trade shows in adjacent markets, electronics, tools, and industrial spaces. Learning from the best of these experiences, I will be well suited to offer qualified insight and ideas for improving the SEMA show experience.

Business experience – I have founded my own business, I have sold my own business, I have worked for a small private company, I have worked for a large private company, I have worked for private equity owned companies, and I have worked for a large Fortune 100 company. This broad experience enables me to see the market through the eyes of ALL member companies. I’ve been in your shoes!

Categories – I have worked in vehicle upfitting, performance parts, racing parts, internal engine parts, tools, batteries, and lighting. With each of these assignments, I have represented 52 premium brands in the enthusiast aftermarket! I know the customers, your customers, and this market very well. Again, this broad experience enables me to represent the broader SEMA member base, not just a limited segment.

Board of Directors - I have served on 5 corporate boards, 1 non-profit board, and 1 charity board. This experience has helped me develop into a seasoned board member, one that strives to add value, help extract the best vision, and narrow to consensus. You have my commitment to serve the SEMA Member companies to the very best of my ability.

The Brian Reese Story:

The beginning – Since the day he was born, Brian has been a fanatical ‘car guy’. Early on he was consumed playing with Hot Wheels, then graduated to racing around the neighborhood in his go-cart. His first job was at NAPA auto parts, and then in a restoration body shop. After high school, Brian attended The Ohio State University, in pursuit of a Mechanical Engineering degree, intent on getting a job ‘designing performance cars’. During college Brian interned for General Motors and gained amazing experience. After finishing grad school, Brian applied to every SEMA company and was hired by SLP Performance in January of 2000 as their new Chief Engineer.

Roots in Racing & Performance, and beyond: – In the early 2000s Brian Reese was the Director of Engineering at SLP Performance Parts. At the time, Brian led the pack developing performance and racing parts for the "then new" LS platform. This 2001 Camaro was the R&D test bed Brian routinely wrenched on and piloted while testing new parts.

In late 2006, Brian Reese was hired by COMP Performance Group (COMP Cams). During his days at SLP, Brian also founded an ecommerce business focused on selling performance parts, which was also acquired by COMP. During his nearly 9 years working at COMP, Brian and his team accomplished many great achievements, including the introduction of trendsetting and SEMA award winning products such as the LSXR Intake Manifolds, FAST EZ-EFI Fuel Injection, and RHS LS Racing Block. During these impressionable years, Brian was under the wing of two ex-SEMA Chairmen, SEMA Hall of Famers, and industry icons – Scooter Brothers and Ron Coleman. Both of these mentors contributed invaluable to Brian’s professional development, learning how to deal with customers, how to make partnership with vendors, and how to ‘give back to the industry’ through volunteer work with SEMA.

In early 2015, Brian Reese was hired by Craftsman and DieHard (Sears Brands). During his tenure, Brian led the effort to bring Craftsman back to the front of the pack. In just two years, Brian filed for over 15 patents, and successfully commercialized those products in record short time. Craftsman was sold to Stanley Black and Decker in 2017.

In early 2017, Brian was hired as CEO for Race Winning Brands (RWB), the holding company which owns iconic performance brands including JE Pistons, Wiseco Pistons, Diamond Pistons, Dart, Manley, K1 Technologies, MGP Connecting Rods, and ProX. Brian was instrumental in leading the growth of RWB, which more than doubled in size during Brian’s reign as CEO.

In early 2020, Brian was hired as CEO for Driven Lighting Group (The Retrofit Source), the holding company which owns leading automotive lighting brands including Morimoto, Profile Performance, GTR Lighting, Headlight Revolution, and Xenon Depot.

Personal Profile:

Brian and his wife Karissa have one son Brayden, and they live in Atlanta, Georgia. Brian’s passion for cars is relentless, and the fleet is always changing. His two favorites are Jeeps and Porsches, which are the daily drivers. Brian is a lifelong motorcyclist as well, and keeps an Enduro KTM in the garage. Beyond automotive, his favorite hobbies include running, traveling, enjoying the beach, skiing out west, and cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes.
